The stitch pattern I used here is "Branched Eyelet Panel" from Anne Matthews' "Vogue Dictionary of Knitting Stitches", David and Charles, 1984.
Thread and needles of your choice. I used #12 Pearl cotton and 1.75 mm/ UK 15/ US 00 needles.
Depends on thread used - mine had a blocked width of about 5 cm/ 2 inches. Length depends on no. of pattern repeats.
K = knit
K2BL = knit 2 together through the back loops
K2TOG = knit 2 together
K3TOG = knit 3 together
YO = yarn over
P = purl
SKP2 = slip 2 stitches singly as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over
SSKP = slip 2 stitches together as if to knit, knit next stitch, pass slipped stitches over
Cast on 21 stitches and work 5 rows knit and 1 row purl, then start pattern:
Row 1: K3, YO, K4, K2TOG, YO, SSKP, YO, K2BL, K4, YO, K3

Weave in ends (if you attach a tassel like I did you only need to do this with the end at the cast-on), dampen and stretch/block. Because pearl cotton is quite soft, I used a bit of spray starch on mine.
